Cerebral Palsy Cymru announces appointment of four new trustees as part of National Volunteers Week

June 01 2023

We are delighted to announce that we have appointed four new members to our board of trustees.

Wales has a growing reputation as a world leader in the treatment and management of cerebral palsy, supported by our pioneering early intervention programme - Better Start, Better Future -which provides specialist therapy and support for babies and children from birth to two years of age. Last year was the busiest year on record for us, with over 76 new babies referred for specialist therapy and support.

We are delighted to announce that our four new board members are:

Jason Llewellyn, Relationship Director, South Wales Corporate team for Barclays.

Lisa Tregale, Director of the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, and an Executive Board member of BBC Cymru Wales.

Toby Jones who works in the Welsh Political sector in which he has specialist knowledge in Disability Rights and Legislation.

Vicky Stevenson, former Senior Manager and Physiotherapist from Hywel Dda University Health Board

The new Trustees follow the appointment of two senior leadership positions to our senior management team – Marie Wood as Director of Fundraising and Communications and Marc Roberts as Head of Retail – earlier this year.

We are thrilled to be sharing this news during National Volunteers Week, a weeklong celebration which gives charities and community groups the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the fantastic contribution their volunteers make. There are estimated to be over 700,000 trustees in the UK who donate their time, knowledge and expertise to help govern and shape charities. Volunteers have been at the heart of Cerebral Palsy Cymru since we were established in 1992.

Frank Holmes, Founder Partner of Gambit Corporate Finance LLP and Chair of our Board commented:

“As the only provider of specialist therapy for children and families living with cerebral palsy in Wales, we are determined to ensure that we can deliver our vital provision to every child and family who needs us. However, like many charities, we are experiencing an increased demand for our services, alongside growing operating costs. Our new volunteer Trustees - Lisa, Jason, Vicky and Toby - all bring with them a wealth of knowledge and expertise which will help us navigate the challenges ahead and develop a sustainable business model.

It is particularly important that Lisa and Toby both bring experience of having a child living with cerebral palsy. They will be able to share critical insight as parents and service users”.
