Jenny Carroll Blog - Launching Cerebral Palsy Cymru
May 21 2020
This is our new name, our third in 28 years, but we remain the same organisation with the same core purpose. We are an organisation set up by families for families; families are our foundation stone and the heart of everything we do. This is why our new logo contains a heart. This is what we will hold fast to as we adapt to this new and changing world.
We were fortunate last year to be awarded a grant from Welsh Government towards a new, larger centre and we completed on the purchase of the building in March. We are continuing with this project and plan to open the new centre by the end of the year when the sale of our Park road centre will be completed. Like our brand change, it may seem a strange time to move, but the challenges of Coronavirus hit us in the middle of these two projects, and the only way was forward.
We are unsure how our services will be organised, to best help families, in the long term but for now, we are offering Video Consultations and advice and support over the phone. We have continued to receive new referrals for babies during the weeks of lockdown. As therapy services across Wales have been required to change how they work (in some areas local therapists are redeployed in the battle against Covid-19), we are currently accepting referrals from any family, with children of any age, who have concerns about their child. We are keeping in touch with our community colleagues and aiming to support them as much as possible in these challenging times as we all work together to best meet the needs of families.
We are developing a plan to see children in the centre as safely as possible and we are acquiring PPE and developing cleaning protocols and policies so we are ready to reopen the centre as soon as it is safe to do so.
We hope you are all keeping safe, that you like our new name and website and we hope it helps new families to find us and the help we are able to offer.
Thanks to everyone for their phenomenal support; families, community teams, friends and supporters and our Cerebral Palsy Cymru team who have worked so hard to make all this possible.
We look forward to continuing our journey with you all.
Because we know - together is better.
